This is a mangled old photo is from a group of pictures I took on a trip to Dog Island, FL in 1980 http://www.gulfbase.org/reef/view.php?rid=dog1 wow that is 32 years ago.. egads. Amazing that I have managed to hang on to it all these years. I do love the photo and the memory of touring the Island with the then caretaker. The Island was bathed in Fog. It created such a mysterious and comforting atmosphere. The Nature Conservancy was just starting to acquire parts of the Island. I remember everyone feeling relieved to think that it would remain as they knew it for years to come. At that time you could only reach the Island by ferry or private charter. What I am drawn to as a painter in the particular photograph is the simplicity of the shapes and the low value contrasts. The painting I am showing is currently available for purchase at Pryor Fine Art in Atlanta. http://www.pryorfineart.com/cgi-bin/artist.cgi?id=84&artist=Jamie-Kirkland. I am excited about a new Lavender/Grey color palette I have been working in and thought I would like to work with this image as abstract and value compressed as it actually is. I will keep you posted!
